Colors Alive Pieces
The paper is alkaline, thus the cochineal turns purple on this paper, no matter what color it is in the jar or on the brush. Layers of marigold - that has dried - affords a protection from the alkalinity of the paper. Layering cochineal over the marigold allows the cochineal, which loves acidity, to remain in it's more well known hue of pinkish reds.
